The Nueva Ecija Association of Northern California (NEANC) is a Filipino-American association with a primary mission of enhancing the lives of needy and deserving residents from Nueva Ecija, Philippines. Founded in 1985, NEANC provides medical and financial aids, and scholarship grants to students of special interests in the arts of letters, science, or technology. Over the past 20 years, NEANC has aided earthquake and other disaster victims, awarded over 50 scholarship grants, and donated books and computers to several public schools. NEANC's most recent project was the Medical Mission in February 2006. With a team of 9 volunteer doctors and 75 private individuals, NEANC was able to reach out to many barrios and towns in Nueva Ecija.
These are some of NEANC's success stories: Michelle A. Antalan (BSIT, NEUST) - "Without NEANC's financial assistance, it would have been impossible for me to finish a teaching diploma because my mother has been the only breadwinner for us since my father died in 1997. I was lucky enough to be informed that NEANC offers college education opportunities to poor and deserving students." Charissa Mercado (BSIT, NEUST) - "Try as they would, my parents couldn't see me through college with their measly income. My mother is a clerk, and my father is a farmer, whose small farm is under El Nino and La Nina's mercy. And so after secondary education, I'll be added to the growing statistics of half-baked and under educated youth. Then came the NEANC scholarship announcement!" Adonis Amor Torres (Enginerring, NEUST) - "I wanted to be a profession al engineer, but my father was jobless and my mother was a dressmaker without permanent income. I am very thankful for your financial support, NEANC." Bernardo Flores (BSIT, NEUST) - "I was a self-supporting student. I worked as a houseboy to earn money for my school and my younger brother who was in high school. My parents were over 60 years old, and cannot work anymore, so I was supporting them also. Lately I couldn't hold on anymore. I was tired doing all of these things. I needed someone to cling on, someone who'd help me carry out these burdens, somebody to share it with. I maybe very emotional, but this is what I feel. NEANC's financial help came at the right time." Glady S. Puyat (NEHS Senior) - "School problems weren't the only ones I dealt with every day then. My problem began when my father met an accident in June 21, 1998. My father's left foot was amputated so he is unable to work. So we have to be thrifty to help our mother in our financial problems."
